With napkin technique , you can easily and effectively turn a wooden panel into a beautiful maritime picture. Whether as a wall decoration, gift or lovely detail for your home - these crafting instructions show you step by step how to creatively decorate a wooden panel with a napkin motif and lettering.

Preparation: Prime the wooden surface properly
To ensure that the colours and napkin motif are shown to their best advantage later, first prime the wooden board completely with white craft paint. The light-coloured primer ensures that the napkin motif is not distorted by the wood tone. Then allow the paint to dry thoroughly.

Applying the napkin technique to wood
Tear your desired motif out of the napkins. Tearing creates soft edges that allow the motif to blend unobtrusively into the overall picture. Then remove the two unprinted layers of the napkins - only the top, printed layer will be used. Coat the wooden board with a thin layer of napkin varnish. Carefully place the napkin motif on the still damp surface and coat it from the centre outwards with more napkin varnish. This avoids folding stars and air bubbles. Leave everything to dry completely before continuing. Napkin varnish is a special adhesive that fixes and seals napkins at the same time.

Transfer and design lettering
Now print out our free template and transfer the lettering to the wooden panel using graphite paper. Graphite paper works in a similar way to carbon paper: the lines of the template are transferred to the surface when traced.
Then trace the lettering neatly with coloured felt-tip pens. For special accents and small points of light, you can add highlights with a white paint marker. This will bring your motif to life and give it a modern, handmade look.
