Instructions No. 3380
Difficulty: Beginner
Working time: 3 Hours
1. Prepare the woven piece
To begin, insert the two metal rods into the weaving frame to determine the desired width of your woven piece. The rods ensure that the woven piece retains even edges and does not shrink. Then attach the warp yarn to the bottom left-hand end of the frame by tying it in a knot. Stretch the yarn in rows into the grooves of the frame until you have reached the bottom right end and tie it there too.
Now you can start with the weaving or tie additional fringes to the warp threads. To do this, cut off strands of wool and knot them to each warp thread band in the frame.
2. Weave row by row
To start, cut a longer thread from a ball of wool and wrap it around the shuttle, a small wooden stick that serves as a weaving aid. Tie the thread to the first row of warp yarn and weave with the shuttle alternately under and over the threads. At the end of each row, wrap the wool around the outer metal rod. Weave the next row in the opposite direction. Use a comb to push the wool tightly and create an even pattern.
When you are satisfied with your rows and want to change color, end the thread on the left side of the frame and leave a thread about 10 cm long to sew it up later.
A great effect can be achieved after several color changes by knotting threads into the warp yarn rows, similar to the bottom of the weaving. Count off the rows and start in the middle, adding another knot to the left and right of the previous row in each row of weaving. When the rug has reached the desired length, cut the fringes into shape with scissors.
4. Sawing, sewing, hanging
Now cut the round rod to the right length and take the tapestry from weaving frame . Saw the rod slightly wider than the frame with a fretsaw. Push all the rows of wool together again with the comb so that you can use the warp yarn at the top end as loops.
Sew all the wool threads to the back of the tapestry with a sewing needle. Then thread the loops over the wooden stick, knot a thread to the stick and hang up your piece of jewelry.
