Painting and Decorating Wooden Snowman Figures Get the wooden figures ready and cover your work surface. This will keep everything clean, and you can focus entirely on painting. If the wood is dusty, wipe it down briefly with a dry cloth—the paint will adhere more evenly that way.
1. Primer: Paint the wooden figures white Paint the cones an even white. It’s better to apply the paint in two thin coats rather than one thick one—this will make the surface smoother and leave fewer brush strokes. Let the paint dry completely before continuing.
2. Paint the carrot nose: Now use orange “ handicraft paint ” to paint a small carrot for the nose. Place it in the center of the face, slightly above where the row of buttons will go, so the proportions look right. Let this paint dry thoroughly as well, so nothing smudges when you draw.
3. Draw the Face and Buttons Next, use a pencil to sketch the snowman’s face and buttons. Start by dotting the eyes and mouth lightly, then trace over them once you’re satisfied. The buttons look especially neat if you place them in a straight line—this gives your wooden figure a clean, classic snowman look.
4. Glue on the hat Next, glue the hat in place. Press the hat down briefly and give the glue a moment to set.
5. Tie a scarf from decorative cord Tie a piece of decorative cord between the head and body and tie it into a bow. The scarf hides the seam and instantly transforms the painted wooden figure into a finished winter decoration. Trim the ends if necessary so the bow looks nicely proportioned and nothing hangs down too long.
6. Finishing touches for a cohesive set If you’re making several snowman figures, vary the color of the decorative cord or tie the bows in different sizes. This creates a small, cohesive set of snowmen that works wonderfully as a table decoration, windowsill decoration, or for a wintery shelf display.
Now it’s your turn! Showcase your snowmen as winter decorations or give them away as small gifts. You’ll find matching colors, pens, glue, and decorative cord in the online shop—so you can get started on your next craft project right away.
