Batik memo board
Instructions No. 2460This idea shows you how creative you can be with the batik technique. Memoboard is practical and decorative at the same time. Learn how to recreate it here.
Preparation
Before dyeing, give the fabric a quick wash through. This will ensure that the fibers of the fabric are free of chemicals, setting agents, detergent & fabric softener residue, and grease. This will make your fabric more receptive to the dye.
The memo board is a triptych, which means it consists of three pieces. Therefore, divide the fabric into three pieces of equal size, so that each of them can be stretched on a 40 x 80 cm stretcher and fixed at the back.
Binding
Take the fabric and tie off sections with warp yarn. Depending on how tightly the warp yarn is tied, less or no color will be absorbed later at the tied areas. In this way, light patterns are created on the dark colored fabric.
Coloring
Moisten the fabric with water and wring it out well.
Shake the textile dye vigorously. Pour the dye directly from the bottle onto the fabric. Apply the color only on one side of the fabric for a color gradient. The color runs through the wetness and the color gradient is created.
Let the fabric dry lying down. Then cut the ribbons and fix the color by ironing the fabric.
Arranging
Stretch macramé yarn tightly over the stretcher bars and secure them to the stretcher bar backs as well.
Hang your three-piece memo board and use the macramé strings to hold your notes, greeting cards and more.
